The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency’s (OCC) Interpretative Letter 1183 (IL 1183) is a major step forward for institutional web3 adoption.
This letter reinforces the legitimacy of crypto-related banking activities, eliminating barriers that previously restricted financial institutions from engaging in digital asset infrastructure. By authorizing institutional participation in crypto custody, stablecoin transactions, and blockchain networks, it paves the way for widespread institutional adoption and deeper financial integration with digital assets as a recognized asset class.
