Ready for your next true-crime binge? The first two episodes of Hulu’s new limited series, Good American Family, are now streaming. Whether you’re familiar with Natalia Grace or not, it’s been a compelling watch so far—and it marks Ellen Pompeo’s her biggest role since reducing her time on Grey’s Anatomy.
Based on the disturbing real-life case of Natalia Grace, the series stars Ellen Pompeo and Mark Duplass as Kristine and Michael Barnett, a couple who adopt a six-year-old Ukrainian girl with a rare form of dwarfism, Natalia Grace (Imogen Faith Reid). After she moves into their Indiana home, her unusual and sometimes alarming behavior leads the Barnetts to question Natalia’s identity—including whether she is really a child.
Good American Family re-creates some of the Barnetts’ allegations about Natalia, including claims that she hid knives in her bedroom and decapitated her brothers’ stuffed animals. In one scene, Kristine allegedly caught Natalia trying to poison her coffee with cleaning fluid.

Natalia shared her side of the story in a three-season docuseries that aired on Investigation Discovery from 2023 to 2025, now streaming on Max. In it, she alleged that she suffered abuse from her adoptive mother, claiming Kristine hit her with a belt, pepper-sprayed her eyes, and gave her three times the recommended dose of a prescribed medication, according to People.
