Meet the CEO of a Billion-Dollar Investment Bank Whose Side Gig Was DJing as 'DJ Sol'

In this news:

David Solomon, the chief executive of Goldman Sachs, might be the high-profile banking boss, but it’s his side gig or hobby that has us all fascinated. This is the story of Solomon, who joined the US investment bank in 2018 and had been DJing under the name of DJ Sol. He has performed at clubs in New York’s Manhattan and at the Lollapalooza festival. His Instagram page, David Solomon Music, reveals that he has been a DJ since 2015. It boasts of a strong following of 55.3K followers, and his Spotify has 288,110 monthly listeners. His biography on his YouTube page states, "NYC native David Solomon has a passion for soul, disco, and house music and has played with dance music legends such as Marshmello, Tiësto, Paul Oakenfold, Galantis, Kygo, David Guetta, and SiriusXM’s Liquid Todd." It also adds, "His first production, released as DJ D-Sol, was a dance mix of Fleetwood Mac’s 'Don’t Stop', which premiered on SiriusXM’s BPM in 2018. His follow-up single, 'Feel Alive', was the first original release on his label, Payback Records. Featuring remixes from Morgan Page & Dzeko, it was named the #15 song of 2019 on BPM. His most recent single, 'Someone Like You' feat. Gia Koka, charted at #4 on Billboard Dance Radio and closed the year at #41 on BPM’s top 51 songs of 2020." Though, according to reports, he had hung up his DJing gear sometime in 2022, officially stopping playing at high-profile gigs, and has not publicly performed since then. And his last big public performance was at Lollapalooza in July 2022. According to Forbes, "Sources told the Times and Bloomberg he decided to quit his side hustle due to unwanted media coverage, a rationale corroborated by Goldman spokesman Tony Fratto, who told the Times that Solomon’s scaleback “is not news” but the “media attention became a distraction." Solomon's stint isn't just limited to DJing but he also appeared in the US TV drama Billions. His Instagram accounts mentioned that all his music-related income was donated to various charitable initiatives through Payback Records. It was launched by him in partnership with Atlantic Records to raise awareness of America's opioid epidemic.
