Northern Cape Premier Zamani Saul says the provincial government will closely monitor the spending of the R2.5 billion allocated by the National Treasury to the Sol Plaatje Municipality, to deal with water challenges.
The project seeks to tackle the ongoing water crisis that has led to water cuts, leaks and ailing infrastructure.
The funds will be released in tranches for the next seven years.
“We have a direct interest in this project because this is the capital city of the province. When people come here, they must experience the best form of service delivery with regards to water and electricity and the best roads. We are going to make sure that we monitor the implementation of this project very closely and we want it to be a success.”
