David Burt, the Premier and finance minister, has attended a summit in Washington to meet senior US officials for talks on financial innovation, international co-operation and regional affairs.
Mr Burt, who travelled with Jason Hayward, the economy and labour minister, also joined the DC Blockchain Summit 2025.
A spokeswoman said scheduled meetings included talks with US representatives Bryan Steil, the chairman of the House Financial Services Sub-Committee on Digital Assets; Joaquin Castro and Gabe Amo, from the House Committee on Foreign Affairs; and Zach Nunn and Young Kim, from the House Financial Services Committee.
She said meetings were arranged by lobbyist Darrell Thompson with the Government’s Washington Office director, Anthony Howell.
At the blockchain summit today, Mr Burt also discussed the island’s regulatory leadership in digital finance with Eleanor Terrett, a journalist and host of the Crypto America Podcast.
He and Mr Hayward held a “strategic dialogue” with Mark Gordon, the Governor of Wyoming; Tim Scott, the chairman of the Senate Banking Committee; French Hill, the chairman of the House Financial Services Committee; and Warren Davidson, the chairman of the House Financial Services Sub-Committee on National Security, Illicit Finance and International Financial Institutions.
The Premier said it marked an opportunity to “strengthen our relationship with the United States through productive dialogue with US lawmakers and officials”.
He added: “At the DC Blockchain Summit, we continued telling the story of how Bermuda is building a fair, well-regulated, forward-looking financial services sector and discussed important topics with tech leaders, such as secure technology for options to enable important functions that the people of Bermuda have called for, such as absentee voting.”
The Premier and Mr Hayward are scheduled to return on Thursday.
