The Road to the Kentucky Derby continues Saturday with the two of the final three major championship series prep races on April 5. The biggest races and the biggest days at the tracks draw the most betting interest, and Saturday’s most watched and wagered race is the Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby. Despite a short field of five horses, the race is long on talent with three potential Kentucky Derby runners led by Derby qualifiers Journalism and Citizen Bull.
Like this weekend’s men’s Final Four with all No. 1 seeds making it to the pinnacle of college basketball, the Santa Anita Derby features two runners that are top class and leading win contenders for the May 3 Kentucky Derby. Saturday’s winner is the likely favorite for the Run for the Roses should Journalism or Citizen Bull prevail.
Also Saturday is another Derby Trail major championship series race with the Grade 2 Wood Memorial at Aqueduct in Queens, New York.
The Grade 1 Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland has been moved from Saturday to Tuesday, April 8 due to heavy rain forecast April 4-6 in Keeneland, Kentucky.
FanDuel Racing has race previews, analysis and picks. All three races are 1 1/8 miles.
