After the viral success of their first 2025 single, “Emergence," the sensational masked UK metal band is back with a genre-bending new single, “Caramel.” Like so many of the band’s tracks, “Caramel” traverses through many melodic and heavy moments, but the biggest surprise on this song has to be the use of reggaeton grooves. Not since Knocked Loose released “Suffocate” has there been a mainstream heavy band that has innovatively amalgamated the latin style with metal music. To be fair, Sleep Token use the reggaeton beat rather briefly in “Caramel,” and it’s used in the more pop-like sections of the track. However, it’s definitely one of the most interesting and unique aspects of the song.
The lyrical themes of “Caramel” seem to delve into the struggles the band’s anonymous singer ‘Vessel’ has faced as a masked artist, or at least that’s what much of the band’s fanbase is interpreting.
Overall, “Caramel” is a decent follow up to Sleep Token’s first single “Emergence,” but it’ll be interesting to see how the critical reception for this new single compares. “Emergence” was not only highly praised but it managed to reach the number 1 spot on the Billboard Hot Hard Rock charts, and also the top spot on iTunes, beating out Selena’s Gomez’s new single.
Sleep Token’s upcoming fourth studio album Even In Arcadia is due out May 9th, via RCA. With the band’s recently announced North American arena tour already being sold out, Even In Arcadia is bound to top the Billboard charts when it debuts, which for any metal band is no small feat.
