The Solana Beach City Council approved a series of budget updates for the 2025 fiscal year during its March 26 meeting, including $937,091 in additional general fund revenue and $607,127 in general fund expenditures.
The additional revenue is in part due to “higher than projected” property tax revenues, according to city staff, bringing the updated total to $10.59 million, which is a $300,000 increase.
City staff also reported that Solana Beach “continues to experience higher than anticipated transient occupancy tax from short-term vacation rentals and hotels,” bringing the updated revenue from approximately $1.08 million to $1.18 million.
The city is also projecting an additional $100,000 in Measure S revenue, bringing the updated total to approximately $4.7 million. Measure S is a one-cent sales tax dedicated to street improvements and other infrastructure. The council also approved an extra $25,000 in expenditures from the Measure S fund for professional services.
The increases in expenditures include an additional $146,019 for salaries and benefits to city employees, another $132,731 for professional services, and $39,323 for equipment and supplies.
The changes to revenue and expenditures bring the city’s operating surplus to $381,063, up from a previously revised $51,099. The projected surplus in the budget when it was initially adopted was a little more than $188,000.
