Soroptimist International Costa del Sol is organising a Fundraiser Jazz Concert for Sunday, February 23, at 11am at their clubhouse in El Zoco, Calahonda, Mijas Costa.
They are raising much-needed funds for victims of the DANA floods in both Valencia and the Guardalhorce Valley, Malaga province.
SI Costa del Sol has been working tirelessly ever since the disaster occurred in October 2024, especially helping women who lost their businesses. A group of members recently visited some of the affected towns in the Valencia region, and the association has now started to support several of the women they met on their time there to rebuild what is left of their businesses.
‘Three months after the disaster, the situation is still critical. It has been very important for us to talk and listen directly to the victims so that we get a clearer insight into their situations, their needs, and how we can support them,’ said the president of Soroptimist International Costa del Sol, Daphne Theunissen. ‘Funds are much needed to be able to continue helping them, and this Fundraiser Jazz Concert is a good way to contribute to the cause.’
Well-known and highly skilled singer Janet Powell, who has given plenty of concerts along the coast for years, presents a programme of classy Jazz and Swing sounds. Her style is magnetic and sophisticated and inspired by the early female Jazz legends.
