Despite calls for an "economic blackout" targeting major retailers on February 28th, early data reveals Amazon sales actually increased during the boycott period. According to analytics from Momentum Commerce, Amazon's transactions rose 1% compared to typical Friday patterns, suggesting the boycott had limited impact on the e-commerce giant.
The Numbers Tell the Story
E-commerce consulting and analytics firm Momentum Commerce found that transactions on Amazon during the February 28th boycott ended the day 1% higher than the average across the past eight Fridays.
"Overall weβre not seeing a major downturn in sales on Amazon US today, although the peak hours are a bit softer from the average Friday," John T. Shea, CEO of Momentum Commerce, told me.
The data showed stronger performance earlier in the day, with sales tracking 6.8% above typical levels by midday before moderating in the afternoon and evening hours.
February 28th closed with 1% higher sales on Amazon versus the previous 8 Fridays.
